Challenges and Strategies in Early Teaching Experience: Voice of Novice EFL Indonesian Lecturers

For novice EFL lecturers, the early years of teaching are quite challenging, as what they find ‘ideal’ in pre-service education is different from realities classroom. The unfamiliar curriculum, limited supports institutions, and socialization issues general challenges for new lecturers. This study aimed to explore voices Indonesian lecturers about faced strategies used their experience. In this qualitative case study, data were collected through interviews with four participants (novice lecturers). found that there two major experience, namely student-related (students’ low proficiency English, students’ negative learning attitude, critical thinking) institution-related (unavailability suitable syllabus high demand university teachers). responding challenges, employed some such grouping students into mixed-ability groups, adjusting materials student’s level proficiency, setting rules consequences students, designing activities promote thinking. coping these teachers collaborate other English develop a module consult coordinators navigate situation.
